Helping At Home

The importance of routines

Routines can make life at home run a bit more smoothly. The following resources contains some ideas for introducing routines and helping children to manage their emotions - even when things are tough.

Online Safety

In today’s world it can be difficult to make sure that our children are always staying safe online.

Children at King Street Primary School are taught about how to keep themselves safe online, with lessons about the dangers of sharing personal information or photographs, the age limits on social media platforms and what to do if they see any content online that makes them worried.

Families should be aware of how to set up parental controls on children’s devices to make sure that any content they are accessing is age appropriate.

Below are a few resources that can help families stay safe online:

Extending learning beyond the classroom

We all want the best for our children and many parents ask how they can help at home. Our answer is always the same- help them learn to read! Reading is the gateway to so many aspects of our daily life. Research shows that confident, fluent readers achieve well in life and have successful economic futures. We would love you to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Sharing stories is a wonderful way to develop imagination and language. Ask your child questions about the story, they can predict what will happen next or even write the next chapter.

Beyond this you can help reinforce basic Mathematic skills by making games out of times tables, counting the stairs in multiples of 2,5 and 10 and exploring shape and measure through cooking and even designing their dream bedroom.
