British Values

British Values

At King Street Primary School we develop and promote British Values throughout our whole school and curriculum. These values ensure that our pupils grow into well rounded members of our community, who understand the importance of acceptance and respect of everyone around them. Through class discussions, pupil voice and pupil leadership roles, children are giving many opportunities to develop their experience and understanding of individual liberty, democracy and rule of law.
Recent Ofsted guidance states that we:

"All have a duty to 'actively promote' the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values were first set out by the government in the 'Prevent' strategy in 2011"

We promote these values at King Street School so that our children can develop the skills and attitudes to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain. Please help us to promote these values across our whole community.
Modern British Values
  • The Rule of Law

  • Democracy

  • Individual Liberty

  • Mutual Respect

  • Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs

To do this our children will develop;

  • An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process

  • An understanding that the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law

  • An acceptance that people having different faiths and beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of discriminatory behaviour

  • An understanding of the importance or identifying and combating discrimination

The mission statement and aims of the school clearly reflect these values, and the whole school strives to uphold them.
