At King Street Primary School, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding, appreciation and knowledge of the world around them, as well as their place in it, by fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world, its people and their own cultural heritage.
We aim to build upon children’s understanding of places, people, human and physical environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Our Geography curriculum aspires to develop knowledge and skills of the world around us, including our locality. We aim to promote skills that are progressive and transferable to other curriculum areas, which also promote the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. This also allows them to understand the important role they play as a global citizen to foster sustainability in an ever changing world.
Our Geography curriculum will be facilitated not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits such as Outdoor Education. Furthermore, these skills are enhanced through the use of digital technology in school with the use on an online mapping system DigiMaps.
